Turi Ryder's fictionalized memoir, "She Said
What?", is now available from Chicago's
Tortoise Books, your independent bookseller, or
that humongous website that sells everything and
is owned by the richest man in the world. Is
that enough hints? "She Said What?" is also
being shaped into a one-woman show with the help
of Chicago director Rachel Slavick. Rachel will
decide at a later date whether it was a good
idea to publicly admit she's involved in the
project.
Turi
spent years as a music jock in
Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
You may have heard Turi hosting her own talk
show on
WGN
Chicago, KSTP Minneapolis,
WLS Chicago,
KIRO Seattle, FreeFM San
Francisco,
or
KFI
Los Angeles
She made the switch to talk radio and morning drive at KGW in Portland. From
there, Ryder spent three years at KSTP Minneapolis, then moved back to Chicago.
Anticipating the dotcom boom and bust by about four years, Ryder tumbled through
a series of short-lived stations. You could have heard her at WLS FM Chicago,
"The Zone" in Los Angeles, or KPIX FM in San Francisco, all in the space of two
years.
After decompressing at KFI Los Angeles for awhile, Ryder decided that perhaps it
was wiser to seek stability on the domestic front. She created the
"Turi Ryder's Exception to the Rule" humor feature on domestic life
for the CBS radio network for six years, as well
as hosting the live syndicated radio show,
"America Weekend." She also creates
imaging and promotions for Bloomberg Radio.
Turi Ryder
Turi and her husband live in Chicago. They have
two sons and various adopted pets. Ryder has
made much fun of people who rave about the joys
of motherhood. She admits that she has mixed
feelings about her kids having left home for
university. Mostly, she thinks that it's nice to
be able to sit down on the couch without moving
someone's socks.
In addittion to her memoir and the occasional
piece for publication, she has edited two books on talk
radio.
